Welcome to Crown King

Crown King is rich with history and beauty. The town was first established in 1888 as the prospectors and the mining companies discovered its rich gold and silver ore. While the landscape of the Southern Bradshaw Mountains have changed much over the past 100+ years, a few things are just as they were back then. The Crown King Saloon is the most popular of destinations on the mountain. There is really nothing like it in all of Arizona. The walls are covered with historic  photographs of Crown King, so you get a feel for what it was like when the mines were in operation. The entire saloon was moved from its original location at a local mine around 1906, and has remained a landmark on Main Street ever since. MJ’s Cafe is located in the back of the Saloon, featuring lunch & dinner every day of the week. You will find great breakfasts on the weekends at MJ’s. If you are looking for a delicious burger and ice cold beer, you won’t be disappointed. The Saloon is host to the most popular events in town as well, such as the Annual Chili Cook-Off.

Another favorite tourist destination is the Historic Crown King General Store. First established in 1904, the General Store has served as the hub of the town and post office since its inception. Back in the day…. locals would gather around the wood stove to play checkers and share stories. While you won’t find anyone playing checkers today, you will discover that they still welcome everyone with a warm smile & friendly cheer. The General Store features the towns only gas pump, the US Post Office, delicious hot breakfast on weekends, hot & cold deli foods all day, hardware, books, souvenirs & much more. The CK General Store, however, is most famous for its fudge. Stop in for a free sample! From Pumpkin Pie to Sweet-N-Salty, you just can’t go wrong with General Store fudge. The Main Street Patio on the side of the store is home to the FREE  Historical Society Museum, open weekends during summer/fall.

While in Crown King, a visit to the Prospector Mall is highly recommended. Located just past the Saloon on Main Street, this little shop has a lot to offer. Inside it a variety of unique gift items, knives, supplies as well as delicious food served by Greg & Aimee Flores. Prospector serves hot breakfast & lunch every day inside along with her famous smoked BBQ & burgers on the patio. Enjoy a quiet break or visit with the locals at the creekside patio.

Visitors to our town experience what it was like to gather at an old time Saloon with a Brothel upstairs. The Brothel rooms no longer used for ‘business’.  Room number 7 is said to be haunted by a ghost named Leatherbelly. Crown King now offers much more modern accommodations, you may wish to consider a stay at one of our cabin rentals or suites. Check out the Lodging page for a complete directory.
